Samsung Galaxy Beam goes on sale

KOREAN PHONE GIANT Samsung has announced that its projector phone, the Samsung Galaxy Beam, is now available in the UK.

Unfortunately, Samsung failed to tell us where the phone has gone on sale and how much it costs. However, it's expected to fetch around ?400 SIM free, and Carphone Warehouse is taking orders for the Beam on pay monthly tariffs. Available on either Orange or T-Mobile, prices for the phone start from ?31 a month, including 400 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data.

We can't help but think that's quite expensive, as the phone runs Google's ageing Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and has an average 4in 480x800 screen. It also has a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of built-in storage, a 5MP rear-facing camera and, of course, a built-in projector, enabling users to 'beam' movies or games onto a blank surface.

Simon Stanford, VP of Samsung's UK and Ireland Telecommunications and Networks Division said, "We were delighted by the hugely positive response we received from both customers and media when we first announced the Galaxy Beam at Mobile World Congress back in February.

"It's the kind of device you won't find anywhere else - a high definition projector within a standard sized smartphone - and is great for people who want to watch movies, show photos to friends or need to give a presentation while they're out and about." ?
