Travel photo of the day: A snow-draped castle

Submitted by Matthew Bentley / UGC

Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen Germany

Neuschwanstein Castle, a popular tourist draw,?stands?near F?ssen in Bavaria, Germany.

"The castle is amazing architecturally,"?Matthew Bentley told TODAY.com.?"The craftsmanship of stonework and detail of the sculptures is something to see. But the real gem is the artwork inside. You really can understand why the castle was never finished; the costs involved would have been staggering."

A snowstorm had come in that morning, dropping about 2 feet of snow. The park had closed off the main hiking trails, so Bentley took a roundabout route to a bridge where he took this photo. "It was cold enough that the batteries in the camera kept freezing," he said.?"I had to take them out and warm them up, in my pocket, every time the camera would die out."
